Quiet now, stormy by the weekend

The latest Northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5…

High pressure gave way to abundant sunshine again today! A light breeze out of the southeast ushered in warmer temps for most of us (sorry Lakeshore), and we stay warmer overnight.

Tomorrow begins quiet, but by the afternoon, our next chance for rain returns!

Right now, a system to our southwest will build in and it looks like the first round storms will begin and enter overnight Friday into Saturday morning.  This first round of storms at this time are not expected to be severe.

Saturday PM is where things could get interesting.  Right now, models are showing a warm front will lift far enough north that we’ll get temps close to 80 degrees in areas on Saturday which would provide the energy/moisture/strength needed for severe wx.  However, we have a cap or essentially a lid on these storms which would prevent extreme wx.  So we need the cap to remain to avoid tornado outbreaks. At this time, we are not anticipating tornadoes.

As of now, main threats are hail, gusts 40-50 mph, downpours, thunder and lightning.  If the cap breaks this could become a much stronger system.

Storm Predication Center has us already in a Level 2/5 risk for severe wx.

Any chance severe wx will be done by bedtime Saturday.

More t-storms in store for Sunday but doesn’t look to be severe at all as a cold front will cool us way off so we won’t have that severe wx moisture/energy.
