GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – In a display of community support and wellness, the Green Bay VA Clinic participated in the 15th annual VA2K Walk & Roll on Wednesday, an event aimed at promoting active lifestyles while raising awareness for homeless veterans.
Despite the inclement weather that moved the event indoors, the spirit of the occasion remained as participants gathered to contribute to an important cause.

Located at the Milo C. Huempfner VA Health Care Center, festivities ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Heather Grasse, chair of the VA2K committee and a social worker with the Veterans Health Care Administration, emphasized the event’s importance.
“We have people here from all these different veteran organizations,” she said. “We also have some different stations here like the photo booth, we have free pizza for those people that register, we have popcorn.”
The event featured various resources for veterans, including a resource table hosted by VA Whole Health, providing essential information on wellness and homelessness prevention.
Participants were treated to a lively atmosphere filled with incentives, including free pizza (while supplies lasted), an ice cream truck, and live music that entertained attendees.
In addition to the fun activities, the event encouraged voluntary donations to support homeless veterans, with suggested items such as hygiene products and cleaning supplies collected at the VA2K sign-up tables.
Among the dedicated participants was Navy veteran Randy Nelson, who expressed his pride in supporting local veterans.
“They went to all these different wars and there’s such trouble that they have, but there’s a lot of help, and I want to help,” he said.
Volunteer Teri Bartel, whose father is a veteran, echoed this sentiment, sharing her motivation to support local veterans.
“My dad is a veteran, he has been treated very well by the VA, which has led me to believe and help veterans here in Wisconsin,” she remarked.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich also showed his unwavering support for the event, having attended in previous years.
