GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – In a display of environmental stewardship, the Green Bay Packers, in collaboration with the NFL, are taking significant strides to recover and repurpose materials from the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Packers have established a robust sustainability program known as the Packers Green Team, demonstrating their dedication to environmental responsibility.
According to Aaron Popkey, the Packers’ director of public affairs, this initiative is a vital part of their ongoing efforts.
As part of this commitment, the team is working closely with the NFL Green Team to ensure that materials from the draft are not wasted.
Ryan Sclar, the Engie Impact manager and NFL Green Team representative, shared that they are recovering a variety of materials, including wood, fence mesh, metal pieces, flagpoles, and even unique items with historical significance.
Some of these materials will be donated to the Packers and the Hall of Fame, creating a meaningful connection to the event.
Local nonprofits are also playing a crucial role in this initiative.
“We’re working with community members throughout Green Bay and the surrounding area including Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, Oneida Nation, various different school districts, and other government entities,” explained Sclar.
Popkey emphasized the importance of these collaborations, stating, “There is a unique story to tell with them and I think that probably creates some additional awareness for those organizations.”
As the focus on sustainability intensifies, programs like the Packers Green Team and the NFL Green Team are becoming increasingly vital.

Sclar noted that the NFL aims to ensure that major events not only provide an exceptional fan experience but also leave a positive legacy for future generations.
