KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A police officer in Kewaunee was celebrated on Wednesday following an incident where his quick thinking and ability to take action saved one man from a fatal overdose.
According to the Kewaunee Police Department, Officer Kelin Charles responded on November 12, 2025, to reports of a man who had passed out. Officials say, despite being relatively young in his career, Officer Charles’s instincts kicked in, and he grabbed some Narcan before entering the home, thinking this could be an overdose situation.
Once inside the home, Officer Charles found the man unresponsive and not breathing. CPR was started immediately until a Kewaunee County Sergeant could arrive and attach an AED, shocking the man.

Narcan was then administered, leading the man to begin breathing on his own. Officials say this can be a dangerous time for first responders when patients come out of an overdose state as they can be combative, but in this case, everything was said to have turned out well.
On Wednesday, April 1, after waiting for months, Officer Kelin Charles was celebrated with a life-saving certificate and a life-saving pin, which will be proudly displayed on his uniform.
