HOWARD, Wis. (WFRV) – A significant law enforcement presence was reported near Pamperin Park in Howard on Tuesday.
Local 5 News was on the scene near Riverdale Drive, where authorities searched a wooded area with the assistance of a K9 unit. Approximately six squad cars were in the area during the response.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies were called to Pamperin Park for a report of a male subject possibly armed with a weapon. Witnesses told authorities they observed the man on a phone, walking away from a vehicle with a weapon and heading into a wooded area of the park.
Officials say the incident is isolated and there is no threat to the public. Local 5 News spoke with one witness who recounted what she saw as she pulled into Pamperin Park shortly after law enforcement officers arrived on scene.
“When we came here there were frightened parents, running out of the park with their children,” Sabrina Nash told Local 5 News. “And then I look to the right of me and I see about 10 squad cars with officers walking around with huge guns.”
Nash said she came to Pamperin Park on Monday afternoon to take advantage of the nice spring weather and go on a nature walk with her friend. She said the park was packed with people also trying to enjoy their day outdoors.
“I was just scared because I knew something bad was going on with the way everybody’s faces looked, everyone looked terrified,” she said.

Pamperin Park remains closed until further notice. Authorities say additional information may be released at a later date pending family notification and clearance from the medical examiner.
“I love taking nature walks here, I’ll just be a little more eyes open (next time I come here),” Nash told Local Five News. “It’s just something that you don’t see everyday.”
Witnesses tell Local 5 News that they heard at least one gunshot.
This remains an active investigation. Authorities didn’t say if Pamperin Park will reopen on Tuesday.
