COLUMBUS, Wis. (WFRV) – One Wisconsin woman is now in custody on drug-related charges and her 4th OWI offense following a traffic stop late Saturday night.
According to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, A sergeant was on patrol in the Town of Columbus when he witnessed a vehicle driving over the 55mph speed limit at 11:28 p.m. on Highway 60.

Officials say a traffic stop was then conducted, with the sergeant claiming to have observed indicators of impairment on the driver. An OWI investigation determined that the driver, 42-year-old Christine Hamilton from Winsor, was impaired.
A search of the driver led to the finding of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia. As a result, Hamilton was arrested and taken to the Columbia County Jail on the following charges:
- 4th OWI offense (felony)
- Possession of THC
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Impaired driving is a serious and dangerous issue that places all of us in danger. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend our sergeant for his proactive efforts by turning a simple traffic stop for a speeding violation into an arrest of a dangerous, impaired driver.

Hamilton was also said to have been issued a citation for speeding. No other information is available at this time.
