(WFRV) – Authorities in Fond du Lac say the elderly man who was airlifted to the hospital after falling at a Fond du Lac County campground on Sunday has died.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, 84-year-old Carl Holter of West Bend, fell and suffered severe facial injuries while walking on a trail near the the boat launch area of Mauthe Lake Campground.

He was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee following the fall and has now been pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Elderly man airlifted to hospital after fall at a Fond du Lac County campground
MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2026 – 9:14 A.M.
(WFRV) – An elderly man is now in the hospital with severe injuries after needing to be airlifted to the hospital following a fall on Sunday at a Fond du Lac County campground.
According to a release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with personnel from Campbellsport Ambulance and the Kewaskum Fire Department, were notified at 4:59 p.m. of a fall resulting in injuries that occurred on a trail near the boat launch area of Mauthe Lake Campground.

Once on the scene, officials say they found an 84-year-old man had fallen while walking on the trail. He fell onto the compacted gravel surface and appeared to have severe facial injuries.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Fight for Life was called to the scene, with the campground entrance being closed for about an hour, allowing for the medical helicopter to safely land and depart with the 84-year-old victim.
The 84-year-old man was then airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
