(WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has released final totals for the 2026 sturgeon spearing season, highlighting a historic year on the ice.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, a total of 1,539 lake sturgeon were speared statewide during the 2026 season. The adult female harvest caps were triggered on both the Upriver Lakes and system-wide.

The Upriver Lakes season was the shortest since 2015, marking one of the quicker closures in recent history.

Anglers speared 54 sturgeon weighing more than 100 pounds this year. The largest fish registered was a 148.1-pound female harvested on the Upriver Lakes.
The DNR congratulated participants for continuing the long-standing Wisconsin tradition and recognized the successful season across the Winnebago system.
