GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Grand Chute are recommending homeowners keep a fire extinguisher handy after snow was used to attempt to keep a garage fire under control.
According to a release from the Grand Chute Fire Department, fire crews responded Sunday evening to a home on the 4200 block of North McCarthy Road for reports of a piece of equipment on fire inside a detached garage.
Upon arrival, crews found the homeowner attempting to control the fire by using snow and throwing it onto the burning machinery.

Fire crews then applied water to the fire, quickly extinguishing it. Smoke from the equipment fire was said to have minimally damaged the structure of the garage.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour, conducting an investigation and helping the homeowner clean up the garage. The cause of the fire is not yet determined.
Officials with the Grand Chute Fire Department are using this incident to recommend that homeowners keep a fire extinguisher handy in their homes, garages, and workshops incase a fire should breakout.
