From Storm Team 5…
The much anticipated winter storm has arrived Saturday night with snow spreading over much of Northeast Wisconsin.
WINTER STORM WARNINGS ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF NORTHEAST WISCONSIN
A BLIZZARD WARNING WILL GO INTO EFFECT SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR MOST OF NORTHEAST WISCONSIN.
This will be a very long duration storm – you will not get all of your snow/sleet accumulation all at once. You may have some periods on Sunday where we get into some lulls, especially in the afternoon.
This storm going to be in the process of deepening and intensifying as it aims for Waukegan, IL and moves into lower Michigan. When this happens, because there’s so much ice/sleet in the updrafts we can get thunder. This is where snow/sleet rates can go crazy. This deepening low will also help to generate wind gusts of 40-50 mph.
This storm will have 3 main parts.
Overnight into Sunday morning: Snow/sleet mix south of hwy 10.
Sunday (day): Snow and sleet mix up to Green Bay.
Sunday night – Monday am: Back to all snow and very strong winds. (Blizzard conditions).
