(WFRV) – A 45-year-old Wisconsin man is now in custody on several charges, and at least 280 total grams of various drugs were seized after a high-speed pursuit early Saturday morning ended in a rollover crash.
According to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a Columbus police officer attempted to stop a speeding driver at 2:44 a.m. on Highway 151. The driver failed to comply, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

Officials say the pursuit continued into Dane County but ended in a rollover crash after the vehicle failed to navigate the exit at County Highway V to the north of Sun Prairie and left the roadway.

Deputies and officers approached the vehicle, finding the driver still inside. The suspect was said to be non-compliant and attempted to flee from the vehicle on foot down an embankment, but was arrested after the use of a stun gun.
One officer was hurt during the struggle and needed medical treatment. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Sabastian Ransom from Racine, was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and further OWI investigation.
Officials searched Ransom’s vehicle and seized 5+ grams of MDMA, 50+ grams of crack cocaine, 18+ grams of fentanyl, 210+ grams of methamphetamine, psylocibin mushrooms, a large quantity of cash, and other drug paraphernalia believed to be associated with the use and distribution of controlled substances.
After being medically cleared, Ransom was taken to the Columbia County Jail, where he awaits an initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court. He was booked into jail on the following pending charges:
- Flee/elude
- Resist an officer causing injury
- OWI 3rd offense
- Failure to install ignition interlock
- 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety
- Felony bail jumping – 2 counts
- Possession with intent to deliver – fentanyl
- Possession with intent to deliver – methamphetamine
- Possession with intent to deliver – cocaine
- Possession with intent to deliver – psilocybin
- Possession with intent to deliver – designer drugs
- Possession of THC
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Felony warrant- Kenosha County x2
- Parole violation/warrant
- Numerous traffic citations
Thankfully no one was seriously injured in this incident. This was an example of great teamwork to get a dangerous wanted felon that made the conscious decision to flee and fight with law enforcement into custody. We are appreciative of the collaborative enforcement effort for the safety of our residents in Columbia County and glad that our agencies can work together to remove dangerous drivers and dangerous drugs from our communities.
