GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Hockey lovers and dog lovers were ‘treated’ to a festive Saturday night at the Resch Center as the Green Bay Gamblers hosted their ‘wiener dog races’ along with a pre-game donation campaign.

The night of four-legged fun kicked off early as the Gamblers asked fans to bring in pet food and supplies on behalf of Community Paws of Wisconsin, which provides multiple services, as listed on their website.
Steven Parise, the president of Community Paws, said the opportunity just fits, and they do this fundraiser every year in collaboration with the Gamblers on the day of the wiener dog race.
“We do it every year with the wiener dog races,” Parise said. “It’s one of the biggest fundraisers we have.”
As for the wiener dog races, plenty of four-legged friends joined in the fun, with friends and family watching, even those who had no idea what they were in for.
Charlie Monday, one of the many people whose dog participated, said he had no idea what to expect, but he was excited to let his son, Tank, meet other dogs and enjoy the race.
“I just hope he finishes and doesn’t embarrass himself out there,” Monday said.
Monday added that it was also a perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy something fun on a Saturday night with his and his girlfriend’s family.

“It’s a good opportunity for him [Tank] to try a new experience, meet other dogs and it’s an excuse to get together with family and friends,” Monday said. “If you love wieners, this is the place to be.”
The Gamblers were one of, if not the first, teams in the USHL to start the wiener dog races, and it’s become a fan favorite tradition in the area and across other teams in the league.
