APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – “We love the ice sculptures in Appleton.”

College Avenue breathed new life Saturday, with the ice sculptures on display down the heart of downtown Appleton for the Avenue of Ice, giving family and friends a chance to walk up and down College Avenue and beat the winter blues.
“I think that it’s great family time, I can see families coming up and down the aisle,” Mason and Natalie Sabota of Kaukauna said, “It just gives us something to do because otherwise in the winter you’re stuck inside, so I think that it’s great that we are here.”
Avenue of Ice brought an increased amount of foot traffic, allowing people to stop and shop local, which the Sabotas enjoyed while looking at this year’s ice sculptures.
“I think that it’s crucial, and today I can definitely see that the traffic is a lot more with the people,” Natalie said. “And we love stopping at each establishment and supporting local.”
The release of this years scultures was pushed back a day, due to the recent warmer temperatures. Downtown Appleton wanted to make sure that the community had maximum time to enjoy these creations.
The delay didn’t deter the Fischers from checking out the sculptures.
“Honestly, we came because this was when the event was being held, so I mean, the fact that it was pushed back a day,” Patrick and Angela Fischer said. “It never really changed anything for us.”
Wisconsin favorites are the theme, with creations like Fleet Farm, Oktoberfest, the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin State Parks, just a few examples of what people can expect to see.
“Just do it, it’s fun to get out, even if you can just come out for a couple of minutes and exercise and see some fun sculptures.”
