SPARTA, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin man found guilty of self-recording the sexual assault of children will now face the next 24 years behind bars after being sentenced on Monday.
According to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old James Ossinger was sentenced by a Monroe County Circuit Court judge to 24 years in prison in connection with his repeated sexual assault of children and possession of child pornography.

Court records indicate that Ossinger sexually assaulted three children between the ages of 7 and 11 years old between 2021 and 2024 as they slept at his home in Tomah.
Authorities began an investigation into Ossinger after information was received that he had uploaded recordings of himself assaulting the victims to a cloud storage service. The investigation resulted in the finding and recovery of hundreds of images and recordings of child pornography, some containing unidentified infants.
Following conviction, Ossinger faced a prison sentence with a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 120 years. The Department of Corrections recommended a 15 to 18-year sentence with 9 to 12 years of supervised release.
The Monroe County Chief Assistant District Attorney argued Ossinger should receive a 72-year sentence, stating that a lesser sentence would “diminish the gravity and scope of Ossinger’s grotesque abuse, which was perpetrated when the victims were at their most vulnerable.”

Ossinger was officially sentenced to 24 years in prison. The 57-year-old would be 80 years old upon his release from prison, when he would then be supervised by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for an additional 45 years and would be required to register as a sex offender.
Officials say Ossiger is also currently facing similar charges in Illinois for his conduct over the same time frame.
