(The Hill) — New video revealed Wednesday appears to show Alex Pretti, the ICU nurse who was shot and killed over the weekend by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis, in an altercation with federal authorities over a week before his death.
The footage, taken on Jan. 13, shows an alleged Pretti hurling expletives at the officers next to their SUV before spitting on it and kicking a taillight twice before it shattered. It’s at this point that an officer leaves the vehicle and grabs the man, before more authorities arrive, throws him to the ground and tackles him.
“Help me, help me,” the man can be heard yelling.
Onlookers are seen yelling at the officers before he was released. What appears to be a handgun can also be seen tucked under the man’s waistband as he continues to yell at the officers.
“Please go home,” he said. “Leave.”
Officers deployed tear gas before they re-enter their vehicle and drive off, according to the video.
A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson told Nexstar’s NewsNation, The Hill’s sister network, that Homeland Security Investigations is looking into the footage.
The video was taken 11 days before Pretti was fatally shot during the Trump administration’s ramped-up immigration enforcement operation in the city. A Border Patrol agent and a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer were placed on administrative leave following the incident.
