(WFRV) – Officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that a recall has been issued for nearly 200,000 BMW vehicles of various models due to a fire risk.
According to a release from the NHTSA, BMW of North America issued the park outside recall on several BMW 2019-2022 models due to their risk of fire while being parked or driven.

Officials say the engine starter relay in the recalled models may corrode, causing the relay to overheat, short-circuit, and potentially start a fire.
BMW vehicle owners are being instructed to park outside and away from buildings or other vehicles until they can either confirm their vehicle is not subject to the recall or have their vehicle remedied.
The following BMW models are being affected by the issued recall:
- 2019-2022 Z4
- 2019-2021 330I
- 2020-2022 X3
- 2020-2022 X4
- 2020-2022 530I
- 2021-2022 430I standard
- 2021-2022 430I convertible
- 2022 230I
The park outside recall is also said to affect 1,469 2020-2022 Toyota Supra vehicles that have been manufactured by BMW.
BMW will be conducting a phased recall due to the availability of parts. On November 14, interim notification letters are expected to be mailed out to owners affected by the recall, with a second notice being sent once remedy parts are available.

Vehicles affected by the recall will have their identification numbers searchable on the NHTSA website starting on November 14. BMW vehicle owners will be able to then enter their license plate number or their 17-digit VIN to see if their specific vehicle is under recall.
Vehicle owners with questions are asked to call the BMW customer service line and the NHTSA is also encouraging drivers to download its SaferCar app for more information on active recalls.
