Oh airline companies… You know most people would be willing to put up with your ridiculous rates, cramped quarters, and terrible in-flight food and snacks if you would just. Be. Honest about what’s going on with our flight.
If you haven’t already done so please take a minute to watch the above video and try and pretend you aren’t smirking and saying “Yeah…I’ve been that mad before.
It goes double for me as I have been on Disney Cruise Line vacations before and they are the bees knees; so I’d be super pissed if you’re “stoic” silence was keeping me from palm trees and massive amounts of family friendly alcoholic drinks.
For instance when the plane is delayed due to inclement weather…Is it a blizzard? A Tsunami? Godzilla? Saying it’s delayed due to inclement weather is the airline equivalent of when a woman says “I’m Fine…” EVERYONE IN THE ROOM knows that’s a lie…so just tell us the truth!
Lets take, for example, a made up airline…let’s call it Camerican Cairlines. If, Camerican Cairlines, you say a plane is supposed to arrive at 9p.m. and it’s not going to…try saying:
“Hey guys…due to high winds here in New York Camerican Cairlines has had to divert the plane to Philadelphia. We have no idea when the wind levels will drop to a safe speed so until that time we will not be taking off. It is a 4 hour drive away and Camerican Cairlines would be happy to route your bags to your final destination if you would like to make alternative travel arrangements to Philadelphia. Or you can hangout here and starting now Camerican Cairlines will be handing out food vouchers every 8 hours till you take off. If you would rather wait it out till tomorrow we would be happy to cover the cost of a hotel room at the closest most afforadable hotel we as an airline can afford. Sorry for the delay but Camerican Cairlines doesn’t control the weather and this is of course for your safety so you don’t die in an fiery plane explosion.”
I’d be super pissed at Mother Nature but I sure as shoot could respect Camerican Cairlines for both A) Their Honesty and B) for giving me options.
Sadly, unlike Camerican Cairlines, most airlines choose to go the route of the less imaginary American Airlines and just keep passengers in the dark for more than 4 hours (a.k.a. the time it would have taken a passenger to drive to the other airport to possibly get on another flight). Now I get it…there are very few things an airline can do when weather becomes an issue but maybe, just maybe, the cost of running an airline occasionally means you are gonna lose big bucks covering your ass when weather does rise up against you.
But what do I know…I just play music on the radio…Which says more about my life as I am not the CEO of a billion dollar industry… I guess.
