It was not the best day for USA in Sochi but we did have one great performance, Maddie Bowman, brings home the gold in the women’s halfpipe.
After being ahead for a large portion of the game, USA fell to Canada in women’s hockey, 3-2 in overtime. There was definitely some heated moments on the ice and overall it was a great game. Switzerland took the bronze, beating out Sweden, 4-3.
Hopefully the men can beat Canada in today’s big event, the men’s hockey semifinal match starting at 11am!
Gracie Gold missed podium by one spot. She performed beautifully but had a fall after one of her jumps about mid-point in her routine. It was horrible to see her fall because I truly think she would have medal after that performance it is would have been perfect. Ashley Wagner ended seventh and Polina Edmunds took ninth.
After falling in both her short program and free skate, Russia’s Yulia Lipnitskaya ended in fifth. This was a HUGE shocker, considering the performances we saw during the team event before. I think she was destined for gold, and I’m excited to see her four years from now! Russia’s underdog, Adelina Sotnikova took gold. And reigning champion, Kim Yuna, ended with silver.
The gold, silver, and bronze in men’s ski cross will all be going home to France.
USA has made a small move away from the pack sitting with twenty-five medals (8 gold, 6 silver, 11 bronze). Russia ranked second with twenty-three (7 gold, 9 silver, 7 bronze). Netherlands (6 gold, 7 silver, 9 bronze) and Canada (8 gold, 10 silver, 4 bronze).
Check out all the action over the weekend and I will be back Monday with the scoop!
