BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – As construction projects sprawl across northeast Wisconsin, local officials spent the day raising awareness on safety in a work zone.
Officials heavily emphasized the importance of focusing on the road, especially in a work zone, as distracted driving causes major issues near construction, including locally, after highway equipment was struck by a car in Brown County last week.

“When you come up on the construction site, it means people are working on the roads, and we want the public to know what they need to do,” Brown County Highway Commissioner Chris Hardy said.
Commissioner Hardy emphasized moving over, slowing down and putting away cell phones as critical, especially in a work zone.
The event came three weeks after Work Zone Safety Week; however, local officials emphasized that it doesn’t matter the time or date, because raising awareness can be at any time.
