GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay East High School made history on Friday night, and it’s in celebration of a rapidly spreading sport nationwide.
Broncos fan’s Lambeau Field LEGO Idea aims to become an official set
The East High School Girls Flag Football team made its official debut in the first Girls Flag Football League, a year after they came in first place at the Packers Girls Flag Open.
“All we had was the Packers outreach program or tournaments,” Coach Robert Kumpula said. “We didn’t really have anywhere else to play or any other teams to play, so joining this league was amazing for our girls.”
Players were just as ecstatic to join the league and play, especially for Denyah Tinnon, who’s been playing a wide variety of sports for her entire life, including in high school, but never had the changce to play flag football at this stage.
“I’m glad that flag is now a sport that’s able to be played in high school,” Tinnon said. “I’m big on history. And I’m glad that I got the opportunity to play, especially as a woman, because we didn’t have women’s flag football.”
They finished in second place at the 2025 Packers Girls Flag Open, which the Packers annually host to support the growth of the sport, and it’s not all the Green and Gold have done to support its rise.

The East High School Girls Flag Football team’s participation in the league was made possible by a grant from Packers Outreach and the Green Bay Area Public Schools Education Foundation.
The grant supports team transportation, allowing them to not just compete but grow the game.
