NEW LONDON, Wis. (WFRV) – Hot dogs are filling the grills in the Tyson Foods New London facility parking lot, giving residents a free meal to help with the flooding cleanup that is set to begin.
“It makes you stronger, so as we can give back, it’s going to make them rally, I saw it with our team,” said Tammy Powers, Tyson Foods New London Plant Manager. “At the plant, not everyone was personally affected, but when your co-workers are affected, you’re all affected.”
Water damage forces elementary school in Wisconsin to close for ‘foreseeable future’
After a week that saw the Wolf River crest, setting record-high water levels across Northeast Wisconsin, New London families were able to take a step back as flood cleanup was set to be in full swing.
“Everything’s going good. The community came together very well. They help everybody out. And this is great that they’re doing this for everybody,” said John Defferding, “I think everybody’s going to help each other out. And, still a lot of work to do.”
The focus now for New London and many other areas is clean-up.
But for many resident’s, the shock is still in the air; they saw their homes underwater.
“I don’t know if I can explain how to be the cleanup, because that’s terrible,” said Maria Gonzalez, “For everybody helping each other, everybody, thank you for the donations.”
A goal of getting back to their sense of normalcy.

“A couple of friends are there. Right on down by the river in the fifth water. Having a pretty hard time, so,” said Steve Christianson, “But I hear the water is receding, so I’ll be able to get down there.”
Tyson Foods will continue giving out free meals until Wednesday from 11-4 at their facility in New London.
