OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Dr. Kazeem Akinyele and a few of his UW-Oshkosh students joined Stacy Engebretson during Wednesday’s Off the Desk to discuss the University’s VITA program.
For seven weeks each spring, UW-Oshkosh accounting students prepare free tax returns through the federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, serving community members while applying what they have learned in real time.
Dr. Akinyele, an associate professor of accounting at UW-Oshkosh, serves as the university’s VITA coordinator.

“Students learn it in the classroom, they earn their certifications, and then they apply it in real time with real clients,” said Dr. Akinyele. “That is invaluable.”
Joining Sacy in the studio were Dr. Akinyele, Grant Stahlback, Taylor Clerkin, and Hannah Bott.
Catch Stacy Engebretson every weekday at 3:30 p.m. for Off the Desk.
