The event was held just days before International Trans Day of Visibility, celebrated annually on March 31 since at least 2009.
The event hosted live musical performances from The Rebel Collective as well as other activities, from art and poetry to special guests like activist Keva Schulz.
Martha Marvel, the President of the Bay Area Council on Gender Diversity, said it’s a crucial event for many reasons, especially in the modern era.
“There is so much misinformation and disinformation that is out and about [regarding] transgender people,” Marvel said. “This is an opportunity for us to take a stand against that and show how really amazing trans people are.”
Marvel added that with the constant threats that transgender people face, it will never succeed.

“It would be like trying to eradicate left-handedness; it isn’t going to work,” Marvel said. “We are going to survive and continue to thrive. We look forward to making positive contributions to the crazy world in which we live.
The event also served as a fundraiser for local LGBTQIA+ advocacy and outreach efforts.
