DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – The City of De Pere has announced it is launching a new opportunity allowing local students to be actively involved in shaping their community.
Officials say a new Youth Commission is being formed and will serve as an advisory body to the De Pere City Council, allowing local young people a direct voice in decisions made by the City.
The mission of the Youth Commission is said to “engage youth in civic leadership, support existing City initiatives, and help develop new programs that reflect the needs and perspectives of De Pere’s younger residents.”

It is through this work that City officials hope more young people and future leaders will be encouraged to help shape the De Pere community for years to come.
The Youth Commission is expected to meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6:30, with most meetings held in the City Hall’s Nicolet Conference Room at 335 South Broadway. The Commission will receive staff support from City of De Pere Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Jessie Paque and City Clerk Carey Danen.
Applications to join the Youth Commission are now open. Applications are said to be accepted once per year from those aged 14 to 18 years old. The position is voluntary, unpaid, and carries with it a one-year term with the opportunity for reappointment all the way through high school graduation.
Applicants must reside in the City of De Pere or attend school at either the Unified School District of De Pere or the School District of West De Pere. All applications are due by Monday, April 6.
