TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Two Rivers gathered the community together Thursday night at the Two Rivers High School Cafeteria/Auditorium for input on the future of the old Hamilton site.
Sitting on the west bank of the East Twin River between Jefferson Street and the riverfront near 16th and 18th streets, the old Hamilton Manufacturing site once produced wood-type furniture and appliances for over 130 years.

Now empty and abandoned after closing in 2012, officials say the city has a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” as the future of the old Hamilton spot will not be decided by chance, but instead by the people in the community who showed up to the Visioning Workshop #3, helping to build on the ideas and momentum from the first two phases of community engagement.
Officials who spoke to Local Five said there are plenty of opportunities on the table.
We’re looking at extending, for example, a connector to our Mariners Trail that runs along the shore of Lake Michigan into the site. You know, and access for more boats, kayaks, really as a way to connect the water to our downtown.

This latest session, the third among a handful of community meetings, was said to take things a step further as Urban Design students from UW-Green Bay were on hand helping review design standards and refining the concepts that were shared from members of the community.
The next community meetings are scheduled to be held on April 22 and April 25.
