DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – As temperatures rise and more vehicles hit the road this spring, the De Pere Police Department is reminding residents that excessively loud driving could result in a citation.
According to the department, loud exhaust systems and other disruptive vehicle behaviors can be cited under the city’s disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle ordinance.

The ordinance prohibits “engaging in violent, unreasonably loud or otherwise disorderly conduct,” including unnecessary or intentional spinning of wheels, squealing tires, revving engines, blowing horns, causing engines to backfire or lifting one or more wheels off the ground while the vehicle is moving. The ordinance does not apply to fire trucks or fire equipment.

It also states that no person within the city may use a motor vehicle — including automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, minibikes or snowmobiles — to cause or provoke disorderly conduct.
The De Pere Police Department acknowledged that drivers may take pride in their vehicles but encouraged motorists to be courteous to neighbors and mindful of city regulations when driving through residential areas.
