PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – School officials in western Wisconsin say their school district is closed on Monday after bomb threats were issued towards the district Sunday night.
According to a release from the Platteville School District, all schools within the district are closed on Monday for the safety of its students and staff, as an online message was shared with the district Sunday night using a potential bomb threat as a means of extortion.

Police investigating the threat determined the potential bomb threat to not be credible, labeling it a ‘student cyber swatting event.’
School administration says that despite the threat being deemed non-credible, the district has various safety protocols in place and has recently invested in safety film installed in high-traffic areas around the district, preparing it for many potential situations.
When a threat occurs, the district follows the rigorous practices outlined in our comprehensive safety plan. By working quickly and closely with local law enforcement, the district can determine if the threat is credible and what action needs to be taken. Following that determination, the district will take appropriate steps, if any, to increase safety, including canceling school, switching to virtual school, increasing police presence, and any other measure the district and law enforcement decide is appropriate.

Officials added that they thank the student who came forward with the information about the potential threat, saying, “Together, we will continue to make our schools a safe place to learn.”
