The Final Scoop:
On Friday, USA’s, Mikaela Shiffrin, won gold in women’s slalom skiing.
Men’s hockey lost against Canada 1-0 in the semifinals. They went on to play Finland on Saturday for the bronze and lost 5-0. They are leaving Sochi with nothing.
In the men’s short track 5000-meter relay, USA took the silver. The team consisted of: J.R. Celski, Jordan Malone, Eddy Alvarez and Chris Creveling. After much disappointment in Sochi for American skaters, taking silver was a very joyful trip to the podium.
Norway swept the podium Saturday in the women’s 30km Free Mass Start. Then on Sunday, Russia swept the podium in the men’s event.
Four-man bobsled team drove by Steven Holcomb and pushed by Curt Tomasevicz, Steve Langton and Chris Fogt slid their way into the bronze spot on Sunday finishing just 0.03 seconds ahead of fourth place. Holcomb and Langton became the first U.S. bobsledders to win medals in both two-man and four-man races at the same Winter Games in sixty-two years. Holcomb and Langton won gold in the two-man race last Monday.
Carson mentioned that he is upset with our American bobsled. It was made by BMW which isn’t even an American company… I 100% agree with him! It’s the Olympics, we should be using only what comes from our own country and keep things overall as fair as possible against all countries!
Russia took home the most medals with a total of 33: 13 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze. USA takes second with 28 medals: 9 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze. Norway finished in third with a total of 26 medals: 11 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze.
During the closing ceremony, dancers poked fun of the mishap during the opening ceremony when a snowflake didn’t open up into one of the Olympic rings. Dancers formed the four rings, but a cluster of dancers didn’t open up. Other than that, it was once again a celebration of Russian culture. There was a lot of ballet dancing, singing, the creepy bear was back (and cried), and of course an explosion of fireworks to end it all!
