Women’s downhill skiing had the first ever Olympic tie. Tina Maze of Slovenia and Dominique Gisin of Switzerland both took home the gold. Lara Gut of Switzerland took the bronze. USA’s Julia Mancuso, who had a shot for the gold, ended eighth.
Women’s hockey had heartbreaking loss against rivalry team, Canada, with a score of 3-2. They are not kicked out of the competition though and will continue onto the semifinals. It’s believed they will return to play Canada again for gold. Fingers crossed we can have a rematch and come out victorious!
Shani Davis follows Shaun White in not having enough for a three-peat in 1000m speed skating. Davis did not finish in the top three and was left without a medal in eighth place. Netherlands’, Stefan Groot took gold, Denny Morrison of Canada with the silver, and Michel Mulder of Netherlands took bronze.
It seems the US women had no problem with the halfpipe! Kaitlyn Farrington stole the show and took gold. Reigning champ, Torah Bright, from Australia, took silver. And bronze went to Kelly Clark of USA. Hannah Teter missed the top three by 0.5 points! At least one American has landed on the podium in women’s halfpipe at every Olympics since the event made its debut in 1998.
Men’s curling won 9-5 against Denmark. Women’s curling lost to China.
Russia continued to dominate in figure skating. Russia’s Tatyana Volosozhar and Maksim Trankov took another gold, Russia’s Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov took the silver, and bronze went to Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy even with their mess up in the beginning of the program. It is the first time since 1936 that figure skating pairs take gold on home ice!
Men’s hockey game against Slovakia took the ice early this morning while C and I had our daily chat! Check back tomorrow for the results!

I lied a little in the chat with C, there is a NEW update on total medal count! Norway is in first with thirteen medals, USA is second with twelve, and Canada and Netherlands tied in third with ten.
American men were a little greedy in the ski slopestyle event. We walked away with all three medals! Joss Christensen took gold, Gus Kenworthy silver, and Nick Goepper with the bronze. GO USA!!! You can watch the action tonight!
